TORSO is a graphic novel written by Brian Michael Bendis and Marc Andreyko (Brian writes for Marvel, while Marc now writes Wonder Woman ’77 for DC) that’s all about the investigation into the Cleveland Torso Murderer, aka the Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run. This serial killer focused on the poor and “dregs” of society, included people of color, LGBT, and sex workers. The novel follows the investigation from before Elliot Ness was involved, to how it consumes him, and ultimately the defeat knowing that the killer will never be caught. They took historical photos and used them as backgrounds in panels, and used newspaper references and biographical details to ensure that the storyline is as accurate as possible.

This is a great way to learn some more about the actual investigation of this case, and also learn a little bit about the political climate at the time, too. I can’t recommend this one enough!

PS: If you want, I can write some more of these blurbs about other books and shows I’ve found over the years, I seem to stumble on lesser-known ones at charity shops.
