Knoxville, Tennessee couple Eric and Erin McLean appeared to have a great marriage. They were aspirational, well-educated, hard-working and had two beautiful little boys together. But on March 10th, 2007 a single gunshot shattered that façade.

Martha Wise was a homely woman with a miserable life who found joy in a very unexpected place – going to funerals. She loved them so much she went to every funeral in town whether she knew the person who’d died or not. After her husband passed away and her family forced her to end a relationship with a new lover, she decided to make some funerals happen herself.
